FACES OF THE WAVES
Photographer GAYLE MACALLISTER
FACES OF THE WAVES celebrates the strength and unity of the Huntington Beach surf community. Sparked during the 2021 Olympics when surfing debuted as an official sport, Gayle MacAllister began capturing the spirit of local surfers thru her lens with over 150 portraits taken at iconic surf spots. Gayle highlights each surfer’s love for the sport through social media posts. Visit her FACES OF THE WAVES permanent outdoor exhibit at the Pacific City beachfront mall in Huntington Beach. The floating installation is located alongside the Surfing Wall of Fame upstairs on the 2nd floor. This photo project embodies the surf culture bringing together a community with deep ties to the ocean and to each other, it also champions Huntington Beach as a Surf Village candidate for the 2028 Olympics. Now in its’ fourth year FACES OF THE WAVES continues to grow with a beautiful coffee table book on the horizon.
“I must say it truly is a wonderful project and I love everything it emulates and says about our community. We need community love more then anything right now with the world in its current state!”
We need that blanket of sadness removed a little, giving us the ability to see the sunshine again, and I think you are doing much more then simply snapping a few beautiful pictures for all the lovely souls but really touching our hearts and reminding us of the good we do have.
Hope to see you soon around the pier!!
Thanks for the bliss you bring !
